Aghabani Craft

Aghabani is a traditional embroidery method that started in Syria hundreds of years ago. Many cities were famous for this craft- Aleppo, Hama and Damascus. Duma, in the area of Damascus, was very famous for making it too.

It has famous patterns and styles like Rash and Wardeh. It is well-known for its beautiful tablecloths, head covers and clothing, and now has been seen on bags, pillow cases and many other items. The threads used in Aghabani embroidery are made of silk. The technique is now semi-handmade, where a machine helps with the process. Traditionally it was a good sign for the groom to wear his wedding suit embroidered with Aghabani, as it said to bring prosperity for the couple life.
